Perthshire Brass to compete at the 2024 National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain

Perthshire Brass will make the trip down to Cheltenham this weekend to represent Scotland at the National Brass Band Finals.

Having finished 2nd in our section at the Scottish Brass Band Championships in March, Perthshire Brass will make the trip down to Cheltenham this weekend to represent Scotland at the National Brass Band Finals.

We'll be playing Peter Yorke's "The Shipbuilders", a piece we have gotten to know well over the summer and had success with in the past - hopefully a good omen.

The Shipbuilders was the regionals piece for the 1993 Championships, a year the band won the section outright with a handful of current members also onstage then. For members less familiar with the piece, the band have spent the weekend past at Belmont Camp and many weeks prior rehearsing under the baton of Willie McMullan, with hopes of a good result against tight competition from bands across Britain.

Perthshire Brass will be among 20 bands playing the piece on Saturday at The Centaur Racecourse, where the band have also represented the Scottish third section, most recently in 2019.

Band Musical Director George Annan said

“I’m really looking forward to our trip to Cheltenham. It will be the band’s 6th time at the National Finals, and every one of these trips has been a special experience. Whatever the result, I can’t wait to travel with the best of people, and give it our best shot on the stage. We are really grateful for all the support we have received to make it affordable, and we go there full of pride to represent Perthshire and Scotland.”
